It’s been a month since I closed my “Brunswick Stewdio” Art Studio, located right downtown in the Brunswick Historic District. It was a brilliant idea conceived to offer a rare opportunity to watch an artist in his element actually working. I believe this ( the studio experience) is one of the most important missing elements in today’s art world and I was very proud to bring this back to life for the Brunswick art scene especially.
Each night I would paint diligently while on display through a two way mirrored picture window. At the same time I was inside working away, people would gather outside on the sidewalk to watch. I was completely oblivious to their presence since the two way mirrored glass prevented me from seeing outside while they were seeing in on me. So I could work uninterrupted and undistracted all along. It became a great interest of many patrons who frequented the Arts and Restaurant district, which immediately surrounded my studio, to follow the progress of my work.
The studio was tiny but the creativity going on in there was immense and it was allowed to spread far beyond the boundaries of it’s interior space. It was a marvelous experience for me and every one of the strangers whom I will never realize were even there and one that I will always treasure. I hope my example at “Brunswick Stewdio Art Studio” will inspire other artists to open their studio and bring that missing element of the working artist experience to the public more often.
